The bodies of two men have been discovered after they fell on Ben Hope in the Highlands.
The pair were climbing the mountain in Sutherland when they got into difficulty on Tuesday.
Concerns were raised at around 3.45pm and a search operation was launched involving the Assynt Mountain Rescue Team and an HM Coastguard helicopter.
The bodies were discovered on the northwest side of the 3,041ft (927m) mountain by the helicopter crew just after 2am on Wednesday.
Police said efforts are ongoing to recover them.
Inspector Keith Macleod thanked the volunteers of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team for their efforts working “in extremely challenging conditions”.
He added: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of both of these men at this tragic time.”
“I would also like to pass on our gratitude to the volunteers of Assynt Mountain Rescue Team for their efforts in extremely challenging conditions.”
Ben Hope is situated in northern Scotland and stands alone in the Flow Country – a region of bumpy, peat-covered moorland – southeast of Loch Hope.
