My Three Favorite Hotel Credit Cards and Why

When it comes to rewards credit cards, I am not too picky about the types of cards I get provided they help me meet my goals. I love airline cards since they often offer the most “bang for your buck” – or value when you actually go to redeem your points. I love flexible rewards cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve and Chase Sapphire Preferred because they let me transfer points to a wide range of partners, for example. And of course

Of course I also love hotel credit cards, mostly because you can absolutely squeeze a lot of value from them if you travel often and stay pretty flexible in terms of where you stay.

But, which hotel credit cards are my favorites? That’s a tough one because I tend to favor certain cards over others when I’m going after a specific redemption. With that being said, here are my top hotel credit cards at the moment – and why I love them:

Hilton Aspire Card

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard all about the new Hilton credit cards that just hit the market. While the Hilton Ascend card is their middle-of-the-road option, I actually just signed up (and got approved for) the Hilton Aspire. While this card does have a $450 annual fee, it gives you 100,000 Hilton Honors points after you use the card for $4,000 in purchases.

You also get a free weekend night for signing up and another on your card anniversary. Rounding out the offer are a $250 credit at Hilton resorts, a $250 airline incidental credit, Priority Pass Membership, and automatic Hilton Diamond status. I am really angling for a week at the Hilton Aruba this October, but haven’t convinced my hubby yet. We’ll see what he says, but in the meantime, I am super excited to get both of our cards in the mail.

IHG ® Rewards Club Select Credit Card

I write about the IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card all the time because I believe it’s a card anyone could benefit from. Not only does it offer a sizable signup bonus, but it grants cardholders automatic IHG Rewards Platinum status. As an added bonus, you get a free night at any IHG property worldwide as long as you pay the $49 annual fee. I’ve used my free IHG night at properties that cost upwards of $400 per night before, and even their all-inclusive resorts. To top it all off, IHG Rewards is a Chase transfer partner so it’s easy to rack up and transfer over small amounts of points for a specific redemption.

The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express

I absolutely love the business and personal versions of the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. At least, I used to love them. I don’t have either card anymore, but I still have a stash of star points. This card is a good one because the points in the Starwood Preferred Guest program are so valuable and versatile.

Not only can you transfer them to Marriott for even more redemptions now, but they can go pretty far at Starwood properties. We frequently use starpoints to stay at a Four Points property near the Chicago airport. However, we’ve also used them to stay at the Park Lane Hotel in London and the Westin Grand Cayman. If American Express didn’t have a once-per-lifetime rule, I would sign up for this card again in a heartbeat.
