My 5 Favorite Credit Cards for 2018

With 2018 upon us, it’s time that I take a look at my credit card strategy for the year — and you should too! I usually evaluate what cards I’m using on a pretty regular basis to make sure I’m getting the most back for my spending. For now, these are my favorite cards.

1. The Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited I am about this card. It earns 2 Membership Rewards per dollar spent on all purchases on the first $50,000 in spending every year. Now, my business and personal expenses aren’t crazy, so I won’t even hit the $50,000 limit for this card — meaning that I’ll earn 2 Membership Rewards per dollar spent for all of my spending that otherwise doesn’t fall into a bonus category! What makes this card even more stunning is that it doesn’t have an annual fee. This card will never leave my wallet.

2. The Citi Prestige Card

Between Citi’s great trip delay and cancellation coverage that extends to other people I’m not related to (like my boyfriend) and the 4th Night Free benefit for hotel stays, it’s easy for me to extract a few hundred dollars in value out of this card each year, and that’s on top of the $250 annual airline credit! The Citi Prestige card does have a hefty $450 annual fee, but I’m totally willing to pay that for the value I get out of the card.

3. AT&T Access More Card

Unfortunately, this card isn’t available for new sign-ups anymore, but I’m glad I got it when I did because it’s one of my favorite cards. I do a lot of online shopping, and the Citi AT&T Access More card offers me 3 ThankYou points per dollar spent for my online purchases.

4. Citi AAdvantage Executive World Elite Mastercard

Now, I have this card for one reason and one reason only: to get access to American Airlines lounges. And I wouldn’t pay $450 a year for that benefit, which is what the annual fee is on this card. However, authorized users also get access to American Airlines lounges, so I was able to contribute to a friend’s annual fee in exchange for an authorized user card (and a promise to never charge purchases on their card). If you know of friends or family that are interested in access to American Airlines lounges, this is a great way to get access for less.

5. Discover IT

While I love points and miles, I also enjoy a healthy dose of cash back, and the Discover IT is my card of choice. Discover offers 5% cash back categories that change every quarter, and in your first year as a new cardholder, they’ll even double all of your cash back! That means that for the first year, you’ll get 10% back in rotating categories and 2% back on other purchases. It’s tough to beat that!
