How to Take the Most Advantage of ‘Kids Fly Free’ Promo from SAS

AdSense

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is offering a great deal to families who want to take kids on their trip with them. Children who are 2 to 11 years old can fly for free with at least one paid adult ticket to select cities in Scandinavia, but hurry, the deal must be booked by Oct. 5.

Up to eight children can travel with one adult, and the taxes must be paid on the kids’ tickets. The offer is valid for travel from Nov. 1 to Dec. 19 and from Jan. 8 to May 31. Departure cities include Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco and Washington. Destinations include Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

No doubt, the promotion benefits families with multiple kids, but there is a way to make the trip even less expensive. Let’s use a family of four as our example. One adult buys a ticket at full price and two children’s tickets for just the cost of taxes. To make the trip more affordable, the second adult can use miles to book his or her ticket and fly together with the family.

SAS is a Star Alliance partner, which means award tickets can be booked with United MileagePlus miles or with Air Canada Aeroplan miles. For example, this 10-day round-trip from Los Angeles to Oslo, Norway, can be booked for 60,000 United miles + $65 in economy class.

The same trip costs $691 if booked in cash. The redemption yields 1 cent per point in value, and many would argue it’s not the best use of your miles, but still, it saves you cash and makes the trip a lot more affordable for a family of four. Norway can be a frigid destination, but also a fun one. Visit the Oslo Winter Park and take ski lessons go to the Viking Ship Museum with the kids to keep warm.

As a reminder, the “Kids Fly Free” promo end Oct. 5. Make sure to book your tickets before then to enjoy the deep discounts.
