Hotel Rewards That Come With Free Breakfast Benefits

Free breakfast is a nice hotel benefit that elite members get to take advantage of. Depending on where you’re traveling to, it can save you a ton of cash. Just a few weekends ago, I was in New York and the free breakfast benefit at the Andaz 5th Avenue saved my group of 3 over $240 per night.

“But you probably wouldn’t have spent $80+ per day on breakfast anyway.” Oh yes, I would have. In fact, the first morning we arrived, we went to my favorite breakfast spot – Coffee Berry on the Upper West Side. The bill for three of us to enjoy the most delicious Shakshuka, $9 orange juice and a “post-breakfast dessert”? Over $85 with tip. But I like a hot breakfast when I’m traveling, so I will pay for it if necessary. Luckily, if you’re an elite member, you don’t have to. Below is a summary of breakfast benefits for top-tier elite members:

For a list of hotel cards that give you elite status, hotel point bonuses and other perks at these hotel brands and more, head here.

Club Carlson

Club Carlson Concierge elite members get complimentary continental breakfast. The elite member must be a registered guest for this benefit to apply. The weird part? The terms seem to suggest that free breakfast extends to just the elite member. No guests. I’d love feedback from any Concierge members who’ve utilized this benefit before.

Hilton Honors

Hilton Honors has the best hotel rewards program out there. Aside from how easy it is to earn free nights via credit cards and paid stays, they also make it super easy to earn status via credit card spending. When earning elite status is this easy, you can bet there are a few restrictions regarding benefits. For a long time, Hilton did not extend free breakfast to members staying at Walforf Astoria hotels. That has luckily changed and now members get free daily continental breakfast for themselves and up to one registered guest.

Hilton Diamond members staying at Hilton Garden Inn hotels can choose between 750 points and a free hot breakfast for themselves and up to one guest staying in the same room. At Conrad, Hilton, Doubletree, Tapestry, and Curio hotels, Hilton Diamond members get Executive Lounge access. If the lounge is closed or unavailable, members get free continental breakfast for themselves and one registered guest in the same room.

When I stayed at the Hilton Sydney a few years ago, the agent checking me in not only upgraded me to a Executive Floor room, but she also extended free breakfast at Glass Brasserie. The buffet normally costs around $50 and it was not only the most beautiful setting, but the food was superb. So sometimes, Hilton will offer both lounge access and restaurant breakfast. In my experience, hotels don’t always impose the 2-person breakfast policy. I’ve stayed at hotels where I booked multiple rooms for up to five guests and received breakfast/lounge access for everyone. See that is why I love Hilton!

Marriott Rewards

Marriott Platinum members are entitled to a free continental breakfast for two in the lounge at JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, Marriott and Delta Hotels in the U.S. and Canada. When the lounge is closed or unavailable, then Marriott Platinum members will receive either a free continental breakfast for two in the hotel restaurant or 750 points. Go with the breakfast. ? The continental breakfast offer applies to hotels outside the U.S. and Canada.

Starwood Preferred Guest

Starwood Platinum members get their free breakfast via the lounge at Sheraton, Westin, and Le Meridien hotels. It’s limited to the Starwood Platinum member and one guest staying in the same room. Members can also choose a welcome amenity of bonus Starpoints or continental breakfast. Some hotels will offer full breakfast, which is always nice.

Do you have elite status with any of these hotels? I’d love to know what your experience has been in terms of the free breakfast benefit.
