Breaking down Justin Quintal’s shapes for the Vans Duct Tape Festival this Saturday at the St. Augustine Pier.
“One is a 5’10” winged twin pin, based off a late 70’s/early 80’s Greg Loehr I bought from a dude in Georgia on Craigslist. It’s one of the most fun boards I own and I’m excited to see how my rendition goes.
The other is 7’8” based off a Joel Tudor “Santana” model I won at the US Open. I blended it with the nose of this old Hobie twin fin that was laying around the shaping bay and placed the fin box slightly further up than I normally would.
I’ve shaped a handful of boards now, but each time it reminds me of how hard shapers work and what skilled craftsman they are.”
