Boris Diaw takes on mountain climbing, much to Manu Ginobili’s surprise – Pounding The Rock

As part of an ongoing series with YouTube channel Bros. Stories, which features athletes in total freedom, former Spurs forward Boris Diaw documented his recent climb of Europe’s highest peek, Mont Blanc, which sits in the Alps between France and Italy with a summit of 15,780 ft. Climbing the mountain was as goal he and his cousin Romain had made together 20 years ago, and recently they set out to achieve their dream.

Of course, it wasn’t easy for a novice climber like Diaw. Before making the treacherous journey he had to learn to walk on ice with crampons, deal with extreme weather conditions, falling rocks, and even took a unique approach to the pace of the climb. While frequent resting is usually not recommended when climbing, his guide gave him a one minute break every ten minutes to accommodate how his heart operates as a professional basketball player.

Of course, nothing regarding Diaw is complete without a response from Manu Ginobili, who teased him about his conditioning before congratulating him on the accomplishment.

Of course, he is referring back to this May, Manu, Boris, Tiago Splitter and Patty Mills (a.k.a. the Foreign Legion) hung out together on a hot dog boat. Maybe Manu was getting Boris for this tweet at the time?

It’s hard to find a closer group if pals than this in the NBA. Hopefully they will continue to bring us joy for years to come.

If you want to check out more of Diaw’s adventures in retirement for the Bros. Stories, here he is climbing Stromboli, an active volcano that rises 3,038 ft above the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Sicily:

And here he is sailing across the Atlantic Ocean:
