Airport Club Lounge Access Fees

Airport club lounge access is one of those things that isn’t completely necessary but makes traveling far less stressful. Even if you’re not lounging in your own private cabana, getting a spa treatment, or enjoying a meal catered by the Peninsula Hotel, airport lounges can still be a nice, quiet place to relax before a flight. There are lots of credit cards that offer club lounge access, but what if you don’t have these cards? You can buy a day pass. Below is a round-up of airport club lounge access fees for domestic airlines:

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines offers the most reasonable fees for club lounge access of any domestic airline. Travelers can buy a day pass and relax in the Alaska lounge for just $45 per person. Alaska Airlines only has lounges in Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, and Anchorage. But it’s not like they offer super luxurious amenities, so the fact that they have lounges in such limited locations isn’t such a huge loss.

American Airlines

American Airlines has more than 50 Admirals Club lounges worldwide. Day passes cost $59 each. It’s worth pointing out that the Citi AAdvantage Executive Card offer free Admirals Club membership. While membership normally costs $550 for new members, you basically get it at a discount since the Executive Card’s annual fee is just $450. If that still sounds like a lot, consider that the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Card has a $95 annual fee. So if you’re a frequent Admiral’s Club visitor and AAdvantage Platinum cardholder, upgrading to the Executive Card might save you some money.

Delta

Delta Sky Clubs charge $59 for day passes. Would I personally pay this fee? Nope! But I know plenty of people who do. If you have the Delta Reserve card, you’re eligible for free Delta SkyClub access. Gold and Platinum Delta SkyMiles cardholders get day passes for a discounted rate of $29 per person.

United

Like Delta, United Club Lounge passes are on the pricier side at $59 per person. However, if you later decide to purchase a membership, you’ll get the $50 initiation fee waived. You can get this membership free of charge as a United MileagePlus Club Credit Card benefit. Another way to get free United Club day passes is to get the United MileagePlus Explorer Card. Cardholders get two passes every card anniversary.

While I don’t really think that  paying for domestic lounges is worth it, there are situations when doing so makes sense. Still, I prefer to get these perks for free, which is why it’s so great that there are airline credit cards offering this perk. It’s also worth noting that credit cards like the American Express Platinum Card, The Business Platinum Card from American Express OPEN, Chase Sapphire Reserve and Citi Prestige (to name a few) either offer club lounge access directly or via travel credits.

Have you ever purchased day passes for any of these airport lounges? Did you consider it worthwhile?
