Hilton HHonors is a great rewards program, no matter what anyone says. They are one of the most generous programs in terms of earning free nights, they offer generous bonus point promotions, the ability to earn top-tier elite status via credit card spending, and even their mid-tier status offers meaningful benefits. Plus, Hilton has thousands of amazing hotels around the world, allowing members plenty of opportunities to put their points to great use. But first they gotta earn them. Here are eight ways to earn more Hilton Points:
Hilton HHonors Points + Points. Hilton HHonors has one of the most generous earning rates at 10 points per $1 spent. In addition, members can choose between a bonus of miles or more Hilton points. Known as the Points + Points option, members who choose this option earn 10 base points plus another 5 points per $1 spent. This means a free night requires just $333.33 – $6,333.33 worth of paid stays, depending on the hotel category you’re redeeming for.
Hilton Credit Cards. Hilton’s co-branded credit cards offer pretty generous sign-up bonuses. The Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve comes with two free weekend nights after $2,500 spent within four months, and the Hilton HHonors Surpass Card from American Express offers 100,000 points after $3,000 spent in three months. Both cards are great for hotel stays or everyday spending. Cardholders can earn up to 3 points per $1 on all spending with the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve or Hilton HHonors Surpass Card from American Express. Charge your next Hilton stay to these cards and you’ll earn 10 points per $1 with the Reserve Card or 12 points per $1 with the Surpass. Charging your Hilton hotel stays to these co-branded credit cards is a great way to earn more Hilton points with little effort.

Transfer Partners. Hilton partners with a variety of rewards programs, which enables members to transfer points at a reasonable ratio. American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou, Hawaiian Airlines, and Virgin Atlantic all offer currencies that can be transferred to Hilton at a 1:1.5 ratio. It’s not always the best use of points, but if you have some expiring miles and not enough for an actual award redemption, transferring them is better than letting them go to waste.
Become a Hilton Elite. The single easiest way to earn more Hilton points is to become an elite members. The easiest way to do that? Get one of the co-branded Hilton credit cards. The Reserve and Surpass cards both come with Hilton Gold status, which entitles you to a 25% elite status bonus on paid stays. Spend another $40,000 on these cards and you’ll be eligible for Diamond status, which translates to a 50% bonus!
Hilton HHonors Promotions. Remember that scene in Up in the Air where George Clooney gets into the elite check-in line, a fellow guest gets upset about him “cutting” and he hands her a HHonors membership form and tells her to sign-up because “the promotions are great!” He wasn’t lying. In addition to a generous base point payout and credit card bonuses, Hilton offers generous bonus point promotions. They are frequently running double point promotions, which brings the base earning rate to 25 points per $1 spent.
Book via Mobile App for 3x. Why go for double points if you can earn triple? At the moment, Hilton is offering triple points when you book your next stay with the Hilton mobile app. The Hilton app is very user-friendly, so it’s totally worth downloading and booking your paid stay with it.
Dine With HHonors. Like most rewards programs, Hilton HHonors has a dining rewards program that offers bonus points at many popular local restaurants and national chains. In addition to earning up to 8 points per $1 spent, new members are eligible for a 2,000 point sign-up bonus.
Shop With HHonors. With the holiday shopping season starting earlier and earlier every year, many people like to avoid the crowds by shopping online (smart move!). Hilton HHonors will reward you with an extra 1 – 22 points per $1 spent through the HHonors Shopping Portal. The list of participating merchants is really huge, so chances are your favorites are included.
